‘Avram Iancu’ University was founded in 1992. It figures among Avram Iancu’s testamentary ideals. He read law and philosophy in Cluj and resorted to the knowledge thus obtained in order to protect by means of ‘the weapons of logics’ the rights of the Romanians persecuted by history in the middle of the 19th century. Our university is deeply rooted both in the Romanian values from Transylvania and in the European values. It represents an institution for high education of a generally liberal tendency. Not politically speaking, but as an orientation towards all the social strata, cultural groupings, age, genre, etc.

The university has an endowment of European standards and is provided with highly efficient information technology. It has a professionally well educated teaching staff, with considerable scientific and publishing achievements, a considerable part of it of a young age, in friendly terms with the students. An important part of our teaching staff has Ph.D. degrees, or attend courses in order to to get their MA or Ph.D. degrees.

The endowment of the university consists of four buildings. One of them includes the Rector’s Office and a flat for the use of visiting professors, while another one is for our administration department. The main building is located at no. 6-8, Fabricii-de-Zahar Street. It is a four-storey building, with 21 classrooms. It is designed as to meet the needs of all our departments, i.e.: Anthropology, Social Welfare, Management, Public Administration, Physical Therapy, Physical Training and Sports. The university has a large computer and Internet lab, as well as three other socio-human four-storey research labs, located at no. 1A, Ilie Macelaru Street. In the same building there is also a library having thousands of books, magazines and papers, computers and Internet connections, a large reading room, plus some additional rooms for auxiliary activities.

‘Avram Iancu’ University
is an institution for high education with no political affiliation, set up in compliance with the law for high education in Romania.
